Enrolling Your Child at Hutch Kids

To begin the enrollment process, call us at 206-667-5983 to schedule a tour of Hutch Kids.

  • Tours are typically scheduled Tuesdays – Thursdays
  • between 9am and 11am
  • and usually last 45-6o minutes.

Application for enrollment of children ranging in age from four weeks through five years will be considered without regard to race, color, religion, sex, creed, handicap or national origin.

Typically we enroll children from our waiting list. If you are interested in placing your child on our waiting list, please read the Hutch Kids Waiting List information and Enrollment Procedure.

Priority for enrollment is determined by the Fred Hutch Human Relations Department. Before we offer an enrollment opportunity to any family, we contact the HR department at Fred Hutch to verify employment.

Currently priority enrollment is based on the following criteria:

  1. Employees of Fred Hutch and Seattle Cancer Care Alliance (SCCA)
    with sibling(s) currently enrolled at Hutch Kids Child Care
  2. Non-employees of Fred Hutch and Seattle Cancer Care Alliance (SCCA)
    with sibling(s) currently enrolled at Hutch Kids Child Care
    Employees of Fred Hutch and Seattle Cancer Care Alliance (SCCA)
    without sibling(s) currently enrolled.
  3. Affiliates of Fred Hutch (i.e., Hutch Kids Child Care Center (HKCC) employees, University of Washington employees, and Seattle Children’s Hospital employees)
  4. Community

Choosing childcare may be one of the most important decisions you make as a parent. You want the very best for your child and child care is a significant financial decision. This decision also may require you to plan ahead as the best childcare providers often have waiting lists.

As an employer supported child care program, priority for enrollment is set by Fred Hutch.

Typically we enroll from the waiting list, so the first step toward enrollment at Hutch Kids is to add your child’s name to the waitlist by submitting an Enrollment Application and the application fee.

When an application is received, a “Receipt of Application” will be sent to the family. It is our recommendation that families get on the waiting list as soon as possible. For families with infants, they may submit an application after they have received confirmation of their pregnancy or as soon as adoption paperwork has been submitted. While adding your name to the wait-list does not guarantee enrollment for your child, it is the only way an enrollment opportunity can be offered to your family.

When a vacancy occurs (i.e., a family withdraws from the program), we take into consideration the age and developmental abilities of the current children in that classroom before contacting families on the wait-list. Families on the wait-list who have a child of the appropriate age for that classroom, are contacted and offered the opening. It is possible for a family to be on the wait-list a very short time before they are offered a placement, while other families may never be contacted. For example, an infant vacancy is filled with the first infant on the waiting list whose age fits age range of current children in that classroom.

The waitlist is also used to enroll families during our annual transition when we know that many vacancies will occur as the oldest children are “graduating” and leaving Hutch Kids. During this time, typically the end of June/early July, the older children move to our Summer Camp and the remaining children transition to their classrooms. This transition time typically causes vacancies throughout the child care center, especially in the infant classrooms. As soon as we have determined where the vacancies are in the center, we review the waiting list, and enrollment opportunities are offered to families with children who are of the appropriate age (range) to fill each vacancy.

To enroll in Hutch Kids Child Care (HKCC), parents must complete the Enrollment Application Form (pdf) and submit the enrollment fee (payable to HKCC). Once the completed form and the enrollment fee are received, the child’s name will be added to the enrollment/waiting list. This form and the non-refundable enrollment fee must be submitted before the child can be added to the enrollment list.

The Anticipated Enrollment Date listed on the application should be your preferred start date for care. If a spot opens up, we will typically contact you approximately 30 days prior to the start date option. Families are typically given a short turn around of 2-days to decide whether to accept or decline the spot. Upon acceptance, families must pay a $200 non-refundable registration fee. Once HKCC receives the registration fee, you will be sent the HKCC Enrollment Packet and be contacted by your child’s new teachers regarding classroom information and visit times.

Tuition is due on the first day of enrollment by check. Fred Hutch deductions can be set up for the following month for families who wish to pay via payroll deduction. If you decline the slot for the enrollment opportunity, you may stay on the wait list with a new preferred enrollment date. If you are offered a spot for a second time and you decline, your name will be deleted from the enrollment/waiting list. A new application and enrollment fee will be required to apply for another Anticipated Enrollment Date.

Acceptance of the requested Anticipated Enrollment Date will be contingent upon the projected availability of a slot in the corresponding age group. If no slot is anticipated, the enrollment date will be automatically moved to the next available opening date which will require no additional application or fee. In this way, new applications do not jeopardize the opportunity for prior applicants to become enrolled on their Anticipated Enrollment Date. The original Anticipated Enrollment Day will be recorded so that if a prior applicant withdraws or otherwise changes his/her preferred enrollment date, you will be given the opportunity to enroll on an earlier date.

Tuition is set by the Board of Directors of Hutch Kids, rates are typically reviewed in April, fees for
the coming fiscal year are approved in July. Tuition is based on the child’s age, classroom assignment. and child to teacher ratio. Typically tuition rates change July 1.  Current Tuition Rates are Posted here.

Tuition for child care is paid on a monthly basis and will be prorated if the child begins child care in the middle of a month. Parents, who are Fred Hutch employees, will have their child care fees deducted from their paycheck, unless alternative arrangements are made with the Executive Director.

Parents who do not receive a paycheck from Fred Hutch, receive an invoice for child care tuition. Fees are due on the last day of every month for the coming month. Late fees are assessed if payment has not been received by 5:00 PM on the fifth day of the month. Currently the late fee is $10.00. Should tuition not be paid by 5:00 PM on the tenth day, an additional $15 will be added. Hutch Kids Child Care reserves the right to deny care for late payment of tuition.

A fee of $25.00 will be charged for checks returned by the bank for insufficient funds or closure of account. This fee will be assessed regardless if the child is still attending Hutch Kids or not.
